This week I will be preaching on the amazing story of the Canaanite woman who asks Jesus to heal her daughter. She breaks rules to get to him and to ask for his help, and he initially rebuffs her. But when she reminds him of his identity and mission, he says:
“great is your faith, let it be done for you as you wish"
and the scriptures tell us, "her daughter was healed from that moment.” There are words that lead up to this -- lots of words about how and when to break rules, and who are the blessed and who are the chosen. My sermon title is Words that Matter, and I am thinking about three areas of words: God's words, her words, and our words.
Midweek, I am also thinking about this short poem "Words" by the amazing Pauli Murray
